Christi Bennett, 66, was taken into custody late Wednesday and faces four charges, including two counts of criminal recklessness, a felony, the Bloomington Police Department said.
Bennett was behind the wheel of a red Toyota that struck pedestrians during a protest on Monday, police officials said.
Video footage from the scene in Bloomington showed an electric scooter lying on the street, blocking the road. After a man exited the passenger side of the red car and threw the scooter to the side, a woman got in front of the vehicle and tried stopping it from moving forward.
The car then accelerated, causing the woman to go up on the hood. A male grabbed onto the vehicle and clung to the side. Both were thrown off when the vehicle made a turn.
The 35-year-old man suffered abrasions to his arms and the 29-year-old woman was rushed to the hospital with a laceration to her head.
Bennett fled the scene after the crash, officers said. She was charged with felony leaving the scene of an accident and misdemeanor leaving the scene of an accident.
Bennett and a male companion were located at a motel in Scottsburg and detained as they left a motel room.
The man was interviewed and released.
Bennett declined to provide a statement and was booked into the Monroe County Jail.
She faces up to nine years in prison if convicted of all counts.
Asked if the man and woman who were struck are being investigated or facing any charges, a Bloomington police spokesman said that other investigations into the incident are still active.
