Woman Files Criminal Complaint Against R. Kelly Claiming He Sexually Abused Her

A woman who said she had a year-long relationship with three-time Grammy-winning singer R. Kelly filed a criminal complaint against him in Suffolk County on Thursday, in addition to suing the singer in Manhattan and filing a criminal complaint against him in Dallas, Texas.

Faith Rodgers said she met the singer when she was 19 after going to his concert in San Antonio. She said they kept in contact afterward, and a few months later, he flew her to New York to attend one of his concerts.

But things quickly broke down when Kelly made sexual demands she was not prepared to give in to. She claims that in a Long Island hotel room after the show, he forced her into nonconsensual sex, and gave her herpes. She also says he filmed their encounter against her wishes.

That, she says, was the beginning of an abusive, year-long relationship that preceded Kelly locking her in empty rooms, vehicles, and studios to punish her for not acquiescing to his demands.

She also said he was grooming her to be one of his sex slaves who he called “family.”

“He goes on to tell me that he raises five women. Some of them had been with him for 15 years,” Rodgers told CBS News. “And he basically was trying to make it seem like it was a family thing. He described these women as being his family. Then he goes on to tell me, ‘You know what? I love you because you remind me of them.'”

At the suggestion of the Dallas Police, to whom she had filed a criminal complaint with about Kelly giving her an STD, she recorded a phone conversation with the singer to try to get a confession from him.

“What about my situation?” Rodgers asked during the recorded phone call, to which Kelly replied, “I don’t know about no situation… I don’t never talk about nothing, to nobody on the phone. I don’t do that. I don’t care what the situation is.”

This isn’t the first such accusation against the singer, 51, who was acquitted of child pornography charges in 2008 and faced a lawsuit by a former romance that was settled out of court. The woman, Tiffany Hawkins, said she was 15 when she started a three-year sexual relationship with Kelly that left her emotionally damaged.

As a result of the allegations, music streaming services Spotify and Pandora have dropped Kelly’s music from their playlists recommendations, although his music can still be found through a search on both sites.

Kelly has also faced backlash on social media, where the hashtag #MuteRKelly calls on people to boycott his music as punishment for the sexual misconduct allegations.

Rodgers said it was hard to tell her family about what had happened to her, but that she is thankful she broke off the relationship, and says she hopes she can inspire other girls and women to do the same.

“For me, my light at the end of the tunnel would be seeing young girls walk away from their abusers,” she told Pix 11.
