Woman Charged With Animal Cruelty After Horses Found Starved to Death on Her Property
A woman is being charged with animal cruelty after investigators found three starving horses on her property in Millington, Tennessee, and a fourth horse frozen to death in a pond.
Disturbing images of the animals show their spines and rib cages protuding from their bodies.
Courtney Simpson, 35, was arrested on multiple animal cruelty charges on Friday, Jan. 26.
Ricky Pike of Pike’s Gravedigging Service was called to Simpson’s home to pull the dead horse from the pond. Then he saw one of the other neglected animals, WREG-TV reported.
“It was skinny as a rail,” Pike told the television network. “And I said, ‘I don’t see any hay in this field.’ And she said, ‘Well, my husband took a pay cut and we haven’t been able to afford to buy feed for them.'”
He said that Simpson should have given the horses away if she couldn’t feed them.
He added, “Justice is going to be taken care of for the horses.”
