Wimbledon: Quarter Finals Lineup

LONDON—The fourth round (R16) of the Gentlemen’s and Ladies singles of the Wimbledon Championships 2015 took place on Monday July 6.

All the top men seeds came through their matches except Thomas Berdych who lost to Gilles Simon. The Vasek Pospisil match with Viktor Troicki went to five sets with Canadian Pospisil taking the last two sets 6/3, 6/3 to win the match.

In the Ladies draw only two of the top ten seeds remain in the competition; No.1 seed Serena Williams and No.4 seed Maria Sharapova both winning their final 16 round matches in straight sets. Caroline Wozniaki (seeded 5) lost to Garbine Muguruza of Spain in today’s match; and L Safarova (seeded 6) was beaten by Coco Vaneweghe of USA.

Gentlemen’s singles (for quarter finals place)
Richard Gasquet of France overcame Nick Kyrjios of Australia 7/5, 6/1, 6/7(9), 7/6 (8). Vasek Pospisil of Canada came back from 2 sets down to beat Viktor Troicki of Serbia 4/6, 6/7(7), 6/4, 6/3, 6/3. Andy Murray won against Ivo Karlovic in 4 sets7/6(9), 6/4, 5/7, 6/4. Stan Wawrinka is through against David Goffin 7/6 (7), 7/6 (9), 6/4. Gilles Simon was too strong for Thomas Berdych winning 6/3, 6/3, 6/2 and Roger Federer defeated Roberto Bautista Agut of Spain 6/3, 6/3, 6/2.

Marin Cilic defeated Denis Kudla of USA in 4-sets 8/4, 4/6, 6/3/ 7/5.

Kevin Anderson of RSA won the first two sets against Novak Djokovic in tiebreakers but it looks like Djokovic has now got the measure of him winning the next sets 6/1, 6/4. Play has now been suspended for the day, can Anderson regroup when it resumes?

Quarter Final lineup:
Djokovic or Anderson against Cilic, Wawrinka plays Gasquet, Pospisil takes on Murray and Simon plays Federer.

Ladies’ singles (for quarter finals place)
Serena Williams wins against Venus Williams 6/4, 63; Maria Sharapova defeats Zarina Diyas 6/4, 6/4. Agnieszka Radwanska takes out Jelena Jankovic 7/5, 6/4.

Caroline Wozniacki drops out losing to Garbine Muguruza of Spain 4/6, 4/6 and Lucie Safarova seeded 6 is also out losing in two tie breaker sets to Coco Vandeweghe of USA.

Ladies’ Quarter-finals:
Serena Williams plays Azarenka, Sharapova meets Vandeweghe, Muguruza plays T Bacsinszky and M Keys takes on Radwanska.
