As the United States enters a new phase in its mission in Iraq today, the White House will answer questions directly from Americans after President Obama addresses the nation tonight at 8 p.m. EDT.
“I know many Americans have questions about our change in mission in Iraq, so immediately following the president’s address, I will be hosting a live chat to answer your questions,” Deputy National Security Adviser for Strategic Communications Ben Rhodes said in a statement.
All Americans can submit or vote for a question on the White House YouTube channel at www.youtube.com/whitehouse.
As of 2 p.m., 85 individuals have submitted 43 questions.
Operation Iraqi Freedom, which was launched in March 2003, has been replaced by Operation New Dawn today. The new phase will focus on supporting and training the Iraqi forces, assisting them with counterterrorism missions, and protecting American civilian and military efforts, according to the White House.
