RALEIGH, N.C.—Dawn McCreary, a wedding planner, attended Shen Yun Performing Arts at the Progress Energy Center for the Performing Arts on Jan. 20.

“It’s beautiful. The costumes are gorgeous. The fluidity of the movements of the dancers with the fabric of the costumes—it’s just really pretty,” Mrs. McCreary said. “It’s beautiful and I really love it.”

Based in New York, Shen Yun presents 5,000 years of traditional Chinese culture through classical Chinese dance and music.

“It’s beautiful,” Mrs. McCreary said of the classical Chinese dance.

She found the marked difference in how the male and female dancers carry themselves interesting.

“I was thinking earlier that there’s such a difference between how the female dancers are and the male dancers are. They are very striking and they seem to be very good at what they’re doing. Like, the women are so graceful and the men are just very powerful dancers,” she said.

Mrs. McCreary was fond of the ancient Chinese stories and legends. She said she found them cool, fun, and funny.

“There’s a really rich culture and history in the last five thousand years of China. It’s a cool performance and really exciting and beautiful,” Mrs. McCreary said. She said she hopes Shen Yun will come back next year.

“Thank you so much,” she said.
