The Town of Wallkill announced Sept. 20 it has a new pharmaceutical drop-off box available at all hours of the day and night for residents to dispose of illegal drugs and prescription medications. The drop-off box is located at the Wallkill Police Department Dispatch Office at 99 Tower Drive, Building B.

According to the Town’s newsletter, the primary aim of the box is to get heroin and painkillers off the streets. Some substances that individuals abuse are obtained by individuals who steal them from the medicine cabinets of family or friends, and recent pharmacy robberies are believed to be by individuals in search of such substances. The newsletter states that any medication will be accepted with no risk to the individual who deposits it.
