Violinist Says Shen Yun ‘Was Really Like an Infinite, Universal Light’

LAUSANNE, Switzerland—Shen Yun Performing Arts began its performances Lausanne, Switzerland this weekend, where it will perform at the Théâtre de Beaulieu until the 17th.

Between the landscapes of snowy alpine peaks and the bluish reflections of Lake Geneva, the city of Lausanne is sometimes adorned with a white winter coat. But this Saturday, Jan. 14, was rather mild, suitable for long walks on the shores of the lake. But for many, it was also the occasion to discover the best of classical Chinese dance and music at the Théâtre de Beaulieu, as Shen Yun was back in Europe.

Valentine Reynaud is a violinist studying at the Haute École de Musique de Lausanne in her second year of study for her Bachelor’s degree.

This afternoon, she realized her little girl’s dream: to finally see the New York-based classical Chinese dance company.

“It was my dream to come and the opportunity came up,” explains the young woman, who said she was “very moved by the musicians, the dancers, and the soloists.”

“Being a musician, I must say that the quality was very high, really. You couldn’t rate it ... it was unreal!”

As the young violinist was discovering, Shen Yun’s orchestra was unique because it combines both traditional Asian instruments with a classical Western orchestra.

“For me, it’s something totally unheard of, because here, I have a very classical training and these Chinese instruments are really very beautiful, very unique ... I found it very moving,” she said.

Ms. Reynaud was also very sensitive to the spiritual values conveyed in the stories told in the dances and songs.

“For me, the two words that characterize this show are ‘beauty’ and ‘divine.’ From the first curtain call, for me, it was really like an infinite, universal light,” she said.

“I feel really fulfilled,” said the violinist. “It was very rewarding to attend this show.”
