At least 31 people were injured by severe turbulence on a flight from Abu Dhabi to Jakarta.
Etihad Airways flight EY474 encountered turbulence around 45 minutes before it arrived at Soekarno-Hatta International Airport, the airline said in a statement.
The A330-200 Airbus plane landed safely at an airport in Jakarta. About nine passengers were injured and taken to the hospital. 22 of the passengers were released from the clinic after being treated for minor injuries, CNN reported.
The turbulence was so bad, cabin storage areas were damaged. Twitter user @NasserRomaithy uploaded photos of the damage.
Another user posted the aftermath of the turbulence.
Haerul Anwar, a spokesman for the Jakarta airport, said about nine of the injuries were serious, adding that officials from the airport and Indonesia’s National Transportation Safety Committee are now inspecting the plane, ABC News reported.
