U.S. Secretary of State Hillary Clinton said on Thursday that a new deal between Russia and the United States to reduce nuclear arms is in the works. In December, the Strategic Arms Reduction Treaty (START) program expired.
The deal in the works between the two nations aims to resurrect the expired START program. The United States reportedly has over 2,000 nuclear weapons while Russia has over 3,000.
Both nations said they would cut down the number of nukes to between 1,500 and 1,675 nukes each, reported BBC. Russian Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov said that the two nations are in the final stage of the new program. The nuclear disarmament agreement is expected to be finalized before President Barack Obama holds a conference this April.
