After a slow start to Monday’s trading day, U.S. stocks slowly clawed back into positive territory, with the Dow Jones Industrial Average gaining around 0.6 percent to settle at 10,154 points, a day after Friday’s 265-point decline. The S&P 500 Index gained 0.6 percent, while the Nasdaq Composite Index increased by 0.9 percent.

After investors sold off shares in the early going upon digesting a pessimistic home builders’ confidence report, shares slowly gained as positive second-quarter earnings again took center stage. Shares of oil services firm Halliburton gained nearly 7 percent on strong earnings. Apple Inc., the technology giant, is set to announce second-quarter earnings on Tuesday.
