When an X Factor contestant performed his first song, judges told him to stop and perform the next one. Then something happened that left them all clearly emotional.

Things didn’t seem to be going smoothly for Christian Burrows when he performed one of John Denver’s songs at the X Factor 2016 auditions, but once he sang his special second song that he wrote himself—called “Thunder Buddy”—everyone got emotional and started crying.

Burrows explained to the X Factor judges that he wrote the song for his late baby brother, who passed away merely at the age of 3 months, while Burrows was aged 2 at that time.

He told Mirror Online, “Nathan left us in the middle of the night. The doctors put it down to cot death because it happened under unexplained circumstances. They didn’t have any answers. It just happened one morning when we woke up.

“I just think of what kind of relationship we would have now—that’s what really gets me,” he added. “It’s not anything specific that I remember, it’s what could have been. It makes me so upset.

“And seeing what it does to mom and my dad. When they feel it, I feel it.”

During the audition, Simon Cowell asked him to sing the second song, and although he was nervous, he knew this was the right time to sing the song.

“Out of all the songs I’ve ever written, Thunder Buddy is what I am most proud of. So when they asked for another song, I made an impulse decision to share it,” he said.

The song left the judges in tears. Nicole Scherzinger said, “Honestly Christian, on the first song, I didn’t know if I got you, then you wrote that second song and I was right there all the way, and you got me.”

Cowell also called him “brave,” adding, “I don’t know how you did that but I think it was important that you did do that, actually, because it told me who you are as an artist, and a person.”
