Ernestine Shepherd has a few words of wisdom to share with the world when it comes to keeping fit later on in life. She was born in June 1936, and just celebrated her 80th birthday last summer—an achievement in itself. She also has another feather in her cap—a world record in fact—Ernestine Shepherd is the world’s oldest female bodybuilder.
This fitness-savvy senior is living proof that it’s never too late to achieve excellence. Amazingly, she started her muscle training when she was 56 years old; and she’s gone on to win 2 bodybuilding titles since then! She is truly an inspiration for those who are getting on in their years.
She also became the record holder for being the Guinness World Record’s oldest competitive bodybuilder in 2010 and 2011.
So, what is the secret of her success? She has a few words of advice for us: discipline, determination, and just plain-ol’ hard work. But besides that, she wakes up at 3 am every day; she runs 130 km per week; and she eats a highly regimented, calorie regulated diet of boiled egg whites, chicken, veggies, and a whole lot of water. But…the real secret is that this iron-pumping granny never gives up!
