Woman used to weigh almost 500 pounds—but what she’s doing after dropping the weight has inspired thousands

She is an inspiration

There was one point in Lexi Reed’s life when she was morbidly obese. Along with her husband, Danny, Reed would consume an inordinately large amount of calories and watch, saddened, as the number on the scale climbed. While her husband’s weight peaked at 280 pounds, Reed’s went way beyond that, reaching 485 pounds at one point.

Reed hated that she’d let her weight get so out of control.

#throwbackthursday to when @dannyreed5 asked me to be his wife on Clearwater Beach at sunset. I had no idea it was coming and cried like a baby. He loved me enough at my heaviest to spend the rest of his life by my side despite my size. He never asked me to change or made me feel like I wasnt worthy to feel beautiful and loved. I'm forever grateful to be his wife and to have had him by my side for the last 10 years. Together we are unstoppable. Together we have come so far and through our weight loss journey have became stronger than ever before. We all deserve love no matter what size. Never let anyone make you feel like you're not enough because someone out there is waiting to show you that you are. ❤ #love #proposal #wedding #engagement #weightlosstransformation #weightloss #plussize #effyourbeautystandards #fattofit #obesetobeast #progress #extremeweightloss #couplegoals #fitcouple #swolemate #gym #workout #exercise #diet #health #instafit #fitness #fit #fitfam #fitnessmotivation

After marrying in 2015 and having finally become fed up with their weight, the couple decided that they were going to make a change. Working together, they started going to the gym, dropping fast food consumption, and cooking their own meals. They credit their inspiration to getting healthy and hoping that the weight loss would enable them to one day have children.

“We didn’t have a meal plan, surgery, personal trainer, but what we did have was each other and the motivation within to work hard every single day,” Reed explained on her Instagram.

“We wanted to be parents in the future and live a longer life together.”

After having too much fun last night celebrating my anniversary with @dannyreed5 I showed up to the gym hungover & bloated from sodium – but determined. Decided to challenge myself to beating my 12 minute mile from yesterday and finished one in less than 11:23! The most important thing you can do during your journey is never give up. There will be days where you don't feel good or it's just not a good day – show up anyways. Challenge yourself to push harder. We are all human and we have to find our balance with our goals. Their efforts were rewarded. A year and a half of intense training later and an important lifestyle change regarding how they saw food, Reed and her husband cumulatively dropped almost 400 pounds. Gone were the days of together eating 8,000 calories, and in its place was the ability to get around easier and better stamina.

For Reed and Danny, it was having the full emotional support of each other that carried them through the journey.

Following the weight loss and going about her life, Reed wanted to find a creative way to share her story of determination. She took to social media, where she created an account to share pictures.

She had an idea.

#swolematesunday -394👇lbs since 1/1/16! This man has stuck by my side through thick & thin. @discoveringdanny has loved me no matter my size and never asked me to change. He treats me the same way at 179lbs that he treated me at 485lbs. When we got married we made vows to low eachother for better for worse through sickness and in health until death do us part. ❤ We meant those words and we are so happy for this new life we are living. With Danny by her side, Reed began recreating old pictures of herself and Danny, posting the “before and after” next to each other in a side-by-side comparison. Reed thought it was a cool idea and never expected the response her idea would get.

Reed’s account blew up following posting the pictures.

She currently has nearly 500,000 followers, many of whom frequently comment on how inspiring her journey has been. Some even say that her pictures helped them stick to their diet and push through a difficult spot.

#throwbackthursday to 485lbs & @discoveringdanny proposing to me at sunset on Clearwater Beach. He never saw me as my size, asked me to change, or made me feel as anything other than beautiful. He treated me the same way at 485lbs that he does at 182lbs. Love doesn't have a size or weight limit. He saw the person I was on the inside and supported me while I made that person on the side match my outside. Surround yourself with those who lift you higher and see the greatness in you even when you dont see it yourself! ❤ #weightloss #weightlossjourney #fatgirlfedupdietbet #love #florida #clearwaterbeach #sunset #fitspire #fitcouple #relationshipgoals #couplegoals #fattofit #obesetobeast #beastmode #fitfam #fitspo #inspire #motivation #fitnessmotivation #gym #wedding #engagement #transform #fitspo #diet #extremeweightloss #transformation

Surprised by her sudden newfound social media fame, Reed continues to use her platform to act as a cheerleader for others hoping to make a change like she did.

Every day has and will be a struggle with food, but with hard work and determination, truly anything is possible. Reed’s glad that she can be someone that others can look up to. As for her advice, Reed says it’s all about stepping out of one’s comfort zone.

My name is Lexi & if you're new to my journey i've lost 303lbs since last year with diet & exercise. No meal plan, surgery, personal trainer – or anything like that. I started counting calories, eating smaller porters of protein, veggies, and less carbs. At 485lbs I started going to the gym and struggled through 30 mins of cardio on the elliptical knowing I was getting stronger daily. I meal prepped my meals and planned my workouts around work or other activities. I stopped watching television, taking naps, going out, and instead made goals to be more active. This didnt happen overnight for me – I worked hard every single day to get where I am. I have sacrificed many things and relationships – but everything has been worth it. I have had many failures, but I always got back up and kept fighting. This journey started when I set a New Years Resolution to lose the weight. That one decision changed my life. Tomorrow could be the day you change yours! Just a reminder that no matter what happened this weekend tomorrow is a new day to fight for who you want to be! #weightlosstransformation #weightloss #weightlossjourney #gym #fit #fitfam #fitness #goals #plussize #effyourbeautystandardards #fashion #flannel #fall #thickfit #fatgirlfedup #fatgirlfedupsdietbet #dietbet #fedup #naturalweightloss #diet #fattofit #obesetobeast #fitspo #motivation #fitnessmotivation #weightlossgoals #transformation #transform #workout
