It’s important to treat every day like it’s your last because, one day, it just might be. That’s one lesson to take from Jasmine Larson and her cocker spaniel Boo Boo.
They loved to spend time together in nature, and one of their favorite activities was climbing mountains. In late May, they enjoyed one final climb together.
Jasmine Larson and her dog Boo Boo have hiked up many mountains together.
The mountains Larson and Boo Boo climb aren’t for the faint of heart. They are what are known as “14ers,” mountains over 14,000 feet above sea level.
The mountain they climbed in May was none other than Mount Sherman, which resides in the Colorado Rockies. Mt. Sherman is the sixth 14er Larson and Boo Boo had climbed together, though they have been this way before. They always have a fun time hiking together.
“He’s great company. I talk with him all the time,” Larson told Fox 31. “He’s like ‘Ya, she’s crazy!’ I just deal with it.”
Larson doesn’t care what other people might think. She just cares about getting to the top and enjoying the spectacular view with a close companion by her side.
“The fact that I’m able to do [these hikes] and take Boo is a gift,” she said.
Yet with Boo Boo at 10 years old, Larson knew that gift would not last forever.
The Mt. Sherman hike turned out to be Boo Boo’s last.
Larson and Boo Boo’s hike was covered by Fox 31‘s Zora Stephenson as part of her Signature Stories series, which highlights inspirational members of the Denver, Colorado community.
Just two weeks after the Fox 31 segment was filmed, the station received word that Boo Boo had passed away.
“There won’t be any replacement and I’ll miss him probably every time I go up a 14er,” Larson said.
Maybe some day Larson and Boo Boo can go on walks together again, beyond the rainbow bridge. Boo Boo is sure to be waiting for her.
