Anyone that lives in New York can tell you it isn’t cheap. So if you’re going to pay a big chunk of money to rent a place, you may as well make the most of it.
That being said, there is a penthouse located on 5th Avenue, in the Upper East Side of Manhattan, and it features views that many dream of having at their property.
The apartment overlooks the Manhattan skyline, which is a treat in itself. And who wouldn’t want to have such a close view of the Metropolitan Museum of Art?
This penthouse also has maid service Monday through Friday, and a chef’s kitchen, along with a spa and fresh flowers weekly. Considering all of this, one would assume that many would be vying to acquire this apartment.
There’s just one catch.
The rent for the apartment is $100,000 a month, totaling over $1.2 million a year.
The apartment is owned by Pier Guerci, the former president of the U.S. division of the clothing company Loro Piana.
He made the place look like what it is today; he even bought its air rights and extended the building’s elevator, just for the apartment.
Now the magnificent space is up for rent.
“It’s kind of an oasis,” Guerci told Bloomberg. “Like being in the country, except you’re in New York.”
This is where the apartment’s vegetation comes into play; thanks to Guerci, there are over 2,700 square feet of trees, flowers, and bushes throughout the place. And a gardener comes every week to take care of them.
The apartment is a mixture of living in isolation surrounded by the forest, but still having that city vibe at the same time. There’s something for everyone in this penthouse.
Cashmere is used all over the apartment, especially on the closet paneling, which certainly adds to the price.
And what other apartment has three outdoor showers to use?
You can also dine outside with up to 30 people, overlooking the city.
“I think, for the right person, it’s a fantastic opportunity to enjoy New York in a really nice way,” Guerci said.
Despite the price, Guerci fully believes that there is a market for this, as he claims to know other NY apartments that are not as unique, yet have a bigger asking price.
The house is up for rent now, though it may be a while before someone takes it. But whoever does can enjoy one of the most exclusive views in New York while eating dinner or taking a shower as well.
CORRECTION: A previous version of this article misstated Pier Guerci’s involvement in the apartment. he owns the apartment and had it renovated, and is now putting it on the market for rental.
