Singing in public can be an incredibly daunting task, even for those with the most impressive vocal cords.
The National Anthem can be one of the most intimidating songs to perform publicly, to boot. With such a large range required to sing it well, singing the Star-Spangled Banner is no easy feat—even without hundreds in the audience.
For high school student Christian Melton, though, performing the iconic song is nothing to be worried about—no matter the situation!
Melton went viral when she stepped up to the mic to sing the anthem at her high school’s basketball game, only to realize that the mic wasn’t working.
She then proceeded to belt out one of the most incredible renditions you’ll ever hear—singing it completely on her own, using her fantastic voice to silence the room and make herself heard anyway.
Comments on the song compare her voice to that of Whitney Houston, arguably one of the highest compliments one can be paid in the singing world.
Without a mic to carry her voice through the arena, Melton had to sing at a louder volume than one might expect during such a vocally demanding song. Yet from start to finish, she never falters – even hitting the highest notes with perfection and poise, earning a rousing applause and plenty of online fans!
This is how the national anthem deserves to be sung every night!
