Northern states like Michigan know to brace for snow upon winter’s arrival. But one man witnessed some startling and dangerous vehicular activity while on the Southbound US31 this past December.

One thing led to another, and the next thing they knew, it was a 30-car pile-up.

The cars were sliding off the road one after another, ending up on the snowy bank beside the ditch—or in it.

“Another one going in!”

In the 3-minute-long video, Jim Perreault caught on his phone, cars are just zooming through the snow into the ditch one after another. His own car gets hit three times as they were waiting.

“Look at them piling in!” he said.

“My wife and I were involved in a thirty car pile up on Southbound US31 in Muskegon Michigan. We were able to avoid hitting anyone by driving in to the median so I shot video and gave a play by play of the cars crashing in. As the video is being shot we are hit three times. Cars, trucks, parts, and snow, flying everywhere,” he wrote.

The heavy snow and resulting poor visibility caused traffic to completely derail itself. A tow truck had stopped to avoid an oncoming vehicle spinning out—which led to a chain reaction of crashes.

There were no serious injuries, but three people were transported to a hospital for minor injuries according to Michigan Live.

Officials closed off the highway by 2 p.m.
