When a child asks you to play along with them, no matter how crazy their idea may seem, you go along with it—even if that plan involves you babysitting their doll.
One evening in June 2016, Trent McCain’s then 9-year-old daughter, Joselyn, asked if he would be able to babysit Abbie the next day. Abbie was her favorite doll.
“She really wants to go trucking with her ‘grandpa,'” Joselyn said.
McCain owns a trucking company in Colby, Kansas.

“The next day, I didn’t think she’d remember,” he told Inside Edition.
But his little girl did, so he took Abbie along with him to see what it’s like driving a truck.
While some parents might have taken the doll and left it on the seat next to them until they returned home, McCain wanted to show his daughter he took his babysitting job seriously.
McCain was up to the challenge of watching his “granddaughter.”
“Why not have fun with it?” McCain said. “We thought it would be fun to show Joselyn that we were doing our job and babysitting Abbie.”
“Grandpa” showed the doll what it takes to be a trucker.
She even got an up close look at the corn the two hauled around.
McCain spoiled Abbie with a sugary treat.
McCain shared on his company’s Facebook page that Abbie’s “mother” was sending him instructions all day, though he had to ignore some things because we all know it’s a grandparent’s job to spoil their grandchildren.
“Joselyn didn’t approve of the snack,” Jody McCain, Joselyn’s mother, said. “Slim Jims and Coke was a little questionable. She thought she maybe needed a milk.”
The two even managed to pay a visit to Abbie’s “great-grandfather.”
Even though the photos quickly spread far beyond their neighborhood, Trent insisted there was no ulterior motive.
“We really had no intention of this getting past our neighborhood,” he told BuzzFeed News in 2016. “We didn’t do it for publicity, we did it because I love my daughter … and she asked me to.”
Trent was such a good babysitter he was asked to watch Abbie again.
Hey Daddy, today you have the job of babysitting Abbie.
Just shy of two years after Trent was asked to watch Abbie, Joselyn, asked her father for another favor. Would he watch Abbie again?
“Joselyn is growing into a young lady, busy with school and activities,” he wrote on Facebook in March. “This note surprised me this morning. So if I can ‘make her day better’ I will. I’ve been busy with trucking that we haven’t had much family time the last few months.
This time Joselyn packed a bag for her doll.
Abbie is packed and ready.
Although she was happy with her father’s babysitting in 2016, Joselyn made sure to pack a bag in March 2018. No unapproved snacks for Abbie this time!
Trent said he debated leaving the doll in his office or putting her back in bed, but the thought of having to make up a story to tell his daughter was too much for him.

While Abbie’s previous adventures had her learning the basics, Trent made sure Abbie expanded on what she learned in 2016 by showing her how to calculate scale tickets, open the hopper, and manage communications while driving.
Since Joselyn wasn’t present to help, Abbie filled in.

“With all the upheaval in the world right now and the negativity you’ve got going on, it was refreshing for everybody to see something positive,” Trent told Good News Network in 2016. “A gal in Virginia even took the time to call me and thank me for what we’d done, and that really makes your day that you were able to bring a bit of happiness to somebody’s life.”
Abbie thinks the remote to open the hoppers is better than canned cheese. It keeps her abd grandpa out of the dirt.
