Toddler wonders into room, but when he gets to the bookshelf—just watch the dad

As adults, we are well aware of the risks of everyday life and we take precautions to avoid them. We know how to properly hold kitchen knives, to look both ways before crossing the street, and that putting hands on a hot stove is far from a good idea.

Children, on the other hand, don’t yet know all the dangers of this world and it’s a parent’s job to protect them. Baby-proofing everything can be quite the undertaking and it’s not uncommon for certain precautions to be overlooked.

Responsible parents act quickly when their kids get into something they shouldn’t.

In this particular case, a dad showed off cheetah-like speed to save his endangered toddler.

It seemed like a normal day for a father and his toddler. Dad was sitting on the couch while his boy played in the corner. The TV played an educational show.

As the boy was playing, he came upon a bookshelf, grabbed the top and started pulling it down. It was about to crash into him!

Fortunately, his father saw this out of the corner of his eye. He got off the couch and ran next to the boy within a split second, pushing the bookcase against his back to save his child’s life.

The boy crawled away from the shelf nonchalantly as if he was never in any danger.

Video of the incident was submitted as part of The Nestie Awards, a contest wherein families who use Nest Cam Security Cameras submit all videos of events captured by them.

This particular video is called “Best Superhero Film: Iron Dad” and it sits at 27,000 views on YouTube.

The dad (who has remained anonymous) certainly deserves his Marvel-inspired title. He demonstrated speed, strength, and courage in that moment.

Hopefully after his child’s near-death experience, he demonstrated Tony Stark level intelligence by stabilizing that shelf.
