This Marine came back from over a year in Japan and his mom’s reaction was priceless!

It had been over a year since Rekita Lee had seen her son, Tre’Vaughn Lee. In August of 2016, Tre’Vaughn left for Japan where he was stationed in The Marine Corps. Rekita planned to visit him overseas this October but those plans fell through.

Rekita had hoped that she could see her son again soon but wasn’t certain that would happen.

So, when Tre’Vaughn told his mother that he was being sent to a new location for training and he’d be so busy he couldn’t take any phone calls, Rekita was rather disappointed. Little did she know that this was merely a cover story for what Tre’Vaughn was really about to do.

“He didn’t want to tell me many details because he didn’t want me to be nervous,” Rekita told ABC News.

Turns out, Tre’Vaughn was flying back home to Jacksonville, Florida, to surprise his mother for Thanksgiving.

Nobody knew he would do this, not even his grandparents who answered the door for him before his mom arrived. Once he got there, he headed to the back of the kitchen to surprise her when she entered through the front door.

When Rekita saw him she screamed with delight.

“Her reaction was so much more than I thought,” Tre’Vaughn said. “I expected crying, but I didn’t expect the big scream.”

From there, Rekita hugged her son for nearly 3 minutes straight, pausing on a few occasions to wipe away tears.

“Tre’Vaughn has always been my rock so it was just very, very, very emotional,” Rekita recalled. “I literally thought I was going to have a heart attack. I couldn’t breathe. I couldn’t believe he’s here…

“…I just really, really needed that. It’s been rough. Holiday time, I never do good around holiday time because I think it should be a happy time. I don’t complain too much because I am thankful for a lot, but I’ve also had a lot of roadblocks in my life.”

Tre’Vaughn plans to stay all the way until December 4, giving his family a nice long visit for the holidays.

“He’s such an awesome kid,” Rekita said. “I could not be more proud of him.”
