Remember the Mannequin Challenge? It was all the rage about a year ago, a popular viral video trend where people (including a few celebrities) would try to pose perfectly still like mannequins while the camera moved around them.

The challenge’s popularity has waned a bit, but one family from Norwalk, California decided to bring it back one more time for the holidays—but this time, with an incredible twist at the end.

At dinner, someone suggested the family try to do a Thanksgiving-themed Mannequin Challenge.

The family members stayed perfectly still in holiday-appropriate poses such as passing out plates:

And of course, having a drink:

Everyone is perfectly still—until one unexpected family member enters:

It was their son, returning from the military!

The soldier decided to give his family a Thanksgiving surprise by suddenly showing up for dinner.

And of course, since some things in life are more important than viral video challenges—the family all broke their mannequin poses and ran to greet their loved one, who has seemingly been away for much too long.
