A lot of effort goes into planning a wedding, and that includes choosing the best entourage. All that was left for this couple to arrange was to find their flower girls, and they knew exactly whom to pick.
Maggie and Josh Wakefield of Lancaster, Pennsylvania, were in the final stages of their wedding preparation. All they needed were flower girls, and their entourage was set. Since weddings are important family gatherings, they chose their grandmothers to be their flower girls.
Joyce Benedict, 75, is the bride’s grandmother, while Drue Fitzgerald, 74, is the groom’s grandmother. Both grandmothers accepted the role when the couple proposed the idea to them.
Both Joyce and Drue walked happily down the aisle strewing rose petals along the way as they marched. They wore matching gray lace dresses and were smiling ear to ear. Both looked like they were having a grand time, and enjoyed being flower girls for the wedding.
Maggie and Josh were so happy to have honored their grandmothers at their wedding, which was previously a wish they were able to fulfill. Maggie, who considers her grandmother like a second mother, takes credit for the idea. Maggie and her sister were raised by their grandmother for most of their lives.
Maggie was not able to see both grandmothers walk the aisle, but she was able to view the photos after. Even their official wedding photographer, Ashley Elizabeth, thought the idea was unique and even said, “never seen anything like it” in her ten years in the business.
All’s well that ends well! Both grandmothers had a great time, and spent most of their time in the reception dancing, and even got to dance with Josh the groom.
This was definitely a one-of-a-kind wedding, and a unique way for the couple to honor the special people in their lives. Congratulations Maggie and Josh!
