Family—like them or not, you’re stuck with them for life. A good family will look out for you, provide for you, and offer help and advice.
Many people love their families and feel a sense of comfort when they’re together. Still, after leaving home, we tend to look back on our family experiences with a bit more of a critical eye. As we see how other families operate, we realize that some of our family’s traditions were a bit odd.
A recent Twitter thread celebrated and poked fun at all the wacky things families do.
When Georgia Hardstark asked Twitter about weird family habits, she received over 2,000 replies.
Georgia Hardstark is the host of many different cooking shows and the co-host for the “My Favorite Murder” podcast. As such, she’s amassed a Twitter following of 123,000 people.
While many of her tweets have gone viral over the years, one tweet from April 19 stands out. In it, she asked “What’s a weird thing your family did that you thought was normal till you moved out?” and provided her own example.
What’s a weird thing your family did that you thought was normal till you moved out? We kept birthday candles in the freezer.

This simple question received a positively massive response with over 8,000 likes. Why? Well, the real answer comes from the over 2,000 comments made by people from all over the world.
Some families would call normal things like TV remotes and hair conditioner by odd names.
We called conditioner "cream rinse" and the remote was the "channel changer."

My entire family calls the tv remote the clicker and I always thought that was a normal thing to call it, but every time I say clicker in front of anyone else I get made fun of 😭

Once my brother and I figured out the Santa thing, all of our Christmas presents suddenly started to be from living AND deceased pets. It isn't really Christmas until I've received a wrapped gift from, "Ghost of Eeyore the parakeet."

We had a “Valentines Day Frog”. Like the Easter bunny or Santa. My mom just really liked giving us presents.

Plenty of replies didn’t neatly fit into the previous categories but were funny nonetheless.
We don’t use the front door ever under any circumstance

Family Dinner "cuss out" we could say whatever horrible words we wanted for 3 minutes 1ce a month at dinner (simultaneously), then couldn't curse the rest of the month

When I was 4 my Mum convinced me that every so often fish and birds would change colour. So whenever a pet died and she replaced it she didn't have to tell me.

At night we would put our cats in our basement where their food and litter box was and my mom would sing “Kitty Round-Up” and they understood that meant bedtime and I just assumed all cats had their own “Kitty Round-Up” song
