Waitress makeup-shamed when petty teenage girls leave rude “tip” on their check

Although it may not be talked about as much as body-shaming, makeup-shaming is a thing that is just as dangerous. Criticizing someone for their looks is not an okay thing to do, yet there are still people who unnecessarily comment on someone else’s appearance.

A waitress, who calls herself as an aspiring makeup artist, is just the latest to be makeup-shamed, and her response is absolutely perfect.

In a post on her makeup-themed Instagram, which is appropriately named WingedandContoured, a waitress described her experience when two teens tried to offer her some unsolicited advice.

This waitress was shamed for her makeup.

It seemed like a normal day at work, until it was time for her to deliver a check to one of her tables. Despite her taking “great care of them,” two 16 year olds who were at the table complained when they saw their check. They wanted to see the manager.

According to the post, the teenagers didn’t have enough money and were upset because their waitress didn’t inform them about how much their food was going to cost. The aspiring makeup artist commented on her post that the teens had their menus for at least 20 minutes before they decided what to eat, so it was no one’s fault but their own for not knowing the price of their food.

After a discussion with the restaurant’s manager it was decided that the girls would have to pay for what they ordered and they were not happy.

“They ‘magically’ had a card to put it on and this is the ‘tip’ they left me,” the waitress wrote on Instagram.

Her customers left her a tip on their check, but it wasn’t the kind people usually leave their waitress.

And as if it couldn’t get any more eye-roll worthy, the teens left their waitress a “tip” that was completely uncalled for. Next to the large zero they put on the tip line, they wrote, “Here’s a tip: contour is supposed to BLEND.” How rude!

Luckily this waitress didn’t seem bothered by the tip—she captioned one of her photos, “Didn’t phase [sic] me”—and she certainly wasn’t going to cry and ruin the fabulous makeup she rocked at work. Perhaps someone was a little jealous about her makeup skills.

Servers go through a lot, from dealing with people like these girls who wouldn’t tip, to rude or rowdy customers.

One waitress dealt with the crankiest elderly customer for seven straight years, before he gave her the surprise of her life.

Walter “Buck” Swords was an 89-year-old grump. He was a curmudgeon, complainer, and malcontent whiner for the 7 years he was a customer at the Brownsville, Texas restaurant at which Melina Salazar worked. Melina was patient with him, but Buck couldn’t have cared less, or so it appeared.

He may have been her most challenging customer.

Each time Buck visited Luby’s, the restaurant where Salazar was a waitress, she met every grumpy growl of discontent from the old man with a smile and kind words.

That’s who Salazar was, pretty much the exact opposite of how Buck was. He may have been her most challenging customer, but she provided the same superior service and attitude to everyone she waited on. Salazar is just one of those people who could see the good in everyone.

Turns out Buck had a heart after all.

After years of Buck being a daily visitor to Luby’s, Salazar noticed he had stopped showing up. When she found out the news that he had passed away, she was sad, not relieved as some may have felt.

Of course, death is never a happy thing, but it would be hard to ignore the reality of Buck’s offensive comments and negativity. But it would soon be revealed that Buck had a heart after all, in a big way.

He looked forward to coming to see her every day.

A lawyer stopped by the restaurant a few days before the Christmas holiday and the day after Salazar had learned of his passing, looking for the waitress. The lawyer pulled the good-hearted server aside for a brief chat.

He told Salazar how much she had meant to Buck and how he had looked forward to coming to see her every day. He let Salazar know that her positive outlook and persistent positivity had not gone unnoticed by her old friend.

But the lawyer wasn’t there just to share loving and kind sentiments from Buck. There was more.

Buck had left her part of his estate.

The lawyer informed Salazar that Buck had left her part of his estate in the form of a car and $50,000. The tears started to run as she was given the news.

“I still can’t believe it,” Salazar told KGBT-TV in an interview, according to the Associated Press.

Maya Angelou (1928–2014), the American poet and activist, once said, “You are the sum total of everything you’ve ever seen, heard, eaten, smelled, been told, forgot — it’s all there. Everything influences each of us, and because of that, I try to make sure that my experiences are positive.”

Melina Salazar could have just as easily said that. She certainly exemplifies it.
