Actions speak louder than words and this dad knows it.

His t-shirt that reads “Best. Dad. Ever.” couldn’t go more perfectly with his amazing new cutoff denim shorts. Why? Because he’s teaching his daughter a lesson she’ll never forget—the virtues of modesty.

Scott Mackintosh, father of seven, became increasingly concerned with his 19-year-old daughter’s skimpy outfits, but it was when she refused to put on a longer pair of shorts to a weekly family gathering that the Utah dad decided he had to get through to his daughter in a language she understood—fashion.

So the 52-year-old father took an old pair of jeans and did this.

Mackintosh grabbed a pair of scissors and turned the old jeans into a pair of daisy dukes to match his teenager daughter’s outfit at the family get-together. “I know it sounds weird to embarrass her, but I wanted her to know she’s of great worth,” Mackintosh told ABC News.

The father wore the silly cutoffs throughout the evening, even as they ate dinner at a restaurant and played miniature golf afterwards. “People were snickering, pointing,” said Mackintosh’s wife, Becky.

Becky told ABC News, “I was embarrassed but I was hoping it would be a really good lesson.”

And it was. In fact, the whole family seemed to enjoy the dad’s lesson on modesty, including Myley, who even posted a picture of her dad in the ridiculous outfit on Tumblr where it went viral and received over 130,000 comments.

Ultimately though, the teen understood that her dad has her best interest at heart.

“Mostly, I just learned the lesson of how much he loves me and that he really cares,” Myley told ABC News.

Clinical psychologist Michelle Golland commended the Utah dad for his creative parenting. “What this father did was an excellent way to get his point across. It was creative, it was funny, it engaged the family and it engaged the teenager.”

While his actions “got the point across,” according to his daughter, he hopes she’ll also remember his fashion advice through his motto “modest is hottest.”
