As a soldier in the Israel Defense Force, Daniel Danino knows first-hand the scrutiny and stress that her fellow soldiers encounter on a regular basis. She also knows that there exists a strong sense of unity amongst the Israeli people, and they take care of one another. In a country always under the microscope from the world, its people come together to face tragedy and strife as one.
One day Danino was traveling by train on her way home from her base. Surrounded by her fellow soldiers, she was eager to enjoy a break from the military. However, while she was passing the time, she couldn’t help but overhear a fellow female soldier’s phone conversation.
The soldier was talking to the electric company about a debt.
The soldier seemed to be very distressed, with her tone of voice was full of worry. Danino listened and felt her heart start to break for her. The soldier was trying to reason with the electric company about a debt of 500 dollars her family owed and was unable to pay. As a result, the company had cut off their services to her family.
Danino felt horribly for the girl.
As Danino continued to listen in, she noticed a man stand up and approach the young woman, who had broken down and was now crying. Taking the phone from her, the man said something to the company that had Danino shocked.
The man offered to pay the soldier’s bill for her.
Shocked by the gesture, the soldier began to thank the man effusively. Danino was just as surprised, but even more happy for her fellow soldier.
After learning the generous man’s name, Danino decided she wanted to do something special to let more people know about his actions. She took to Facebook to share the story.
“Friends, meet the angel, Ofir Itzhak,” Danino shared in the Facebook post along with a picture she took of him.
“The man who doesn’t have Facebook, but does have the greatest soul I’ve ever come across!”
Danino then went on to share details of the exchange, ending the post with a personal message and request.
“There are still those who do things for others without expecting anything in return,” Danino wrote.
“I was left with my mouth hanging open, speechless, and full of a sense of pride in being a part of this nation that galvanizes to help others during times of distress. Friends, share this post, so that it reaches people who know this amazing guy so they can be filled with pride as well.”
“I get off the train with hope and faith in people.”
In providing an example of generosity and unity, Danino was pleased when her post went viral. She hoped people will take a lesson from it and always look out for one another ideas and strive to make a better world.
