A discovery literally tens of millions of years in the making was unintentionally unearthed in Heyuan, Guangdong Province, China during some routine road construction.

The discovery was found nestled just a few feet below a roadway in the bustling metropolis of Heyuan, where millions of people call home.

The construction crew almost destroyed the specimens while digging, but realized what they had unearthed was important and called in some experts, who then scrambled to the site.

Viewers can see the large construction equipment lining the busy road, adorned with shops and restaurants. A modern urban environment is depicted going about its business mere feet away from the find, which had lay hidden for millennia.

To the experts’ astonishment, they discovered that this road crew had miraculously unearthed 43 unhatched, fossilized dinosaur eggs.

The eggs, fossilized over the course of millions of years, found their resting place in the hard stone of the earth.

Archeologists removed large stones that contained the fossils and moved them away from the construction work to a safe place for study and preservation.

The discovery of these eggs in 2015 was an international news sensation. Stories about their discovery were carried in major news outlets across the globe.

The occupied lands of China hold thousands of years of history and tradition yet, one only needs to dig a little deeper to unearth secrets from millennia past.
