An important part of a police investigation is witness statements. They provide the details a person observed from a crime scene and are often crucial to helping police track down a suspect. They can also aide the prosecution, which is why the Crown Prosecution Services (CPS) requested a statement from an officer named PC Peach of the West Midlands Police in the U.K.

The only issue was that the officer the CPS requested a statement from was actually a K9 police dog.

Ruh roh!

Reportedly the CPS was insistent on receiving a statement from PC Peach, so West Midlands police gave them what they asked for. A statement from the one and only PC Peach …

According to the Daily Mail, the CPS was not too thrilled when they finally got what they had been asking for and were not amused that their misunderstanding about the officer was made into a public joke. Reportedly, the witness statement hung in the West Midlands police station until someone took a photo of it and posted it on Facebook.

Following the publication of the witness statement, the Professional Standards Department opened an investigation into the matter, though the police union urged the investigators to treat the incident for what it was, a joke.
