Police warned criminal to give himself up, but he refused — so they unleashed Tank the police dog

In war, tanks are slow-moving heavily-armored vehicles that can fire explosive rounds or missiles.

But in the Massachusetts State Police, Tank is the name of a fast-moving K9 unit wearing nothing but a State Police vest. In both cases, they are powerful forces that shouldn’t be taken lightly, as a recent Facebook post has shown.

On Thursday November 17th, Massachusetts State Troopers received a call about stranded motorist attempting to flag down traffic. When they arrived, they couldn’t find the driver, but they found an abandoned car that had broken down along Route 495 in Salisbury.

They ordered the car to be towed. Apparently, the car’s original driver (who had been picked up by a stranger to go get gas) had caught wind of this and flagged down the tow truck driver. The tow truck driver called in, informing the police that the car’s driver appeared drunk. He refused to give the driver his car back until the police arrived.

Once the patrol cars got there, the man took off on foot and disappeared into the woods. As it turned out, this man was wanted in Florida for battery of a police officer and had another warrant in Massachusetts—plus a suspended driver’s license. So, the police force knew they had to deploy their ultimate weapon: Tank.

Tank was taken to the woods, and officers warned the criminal that they were about to unleash their K9 unit, and that it would be in his best interest to give himself up. The man offered no response, so Tank was let go from his leash and ran off into the woods, following the criminal’s scent. It took him a moment, but eventually, Tank was able to find the wanted man and pin him to the ground.

It didn’t take long for the police to find him from there. The man was making a lot of noise, yelling for Tank to get off of him. He tried to resist in any way that he could, even attempting to choke Tank with his own collar, but the dog held him down until the rest of the force arrived. When he was caught, he faced several charges, including interference with a police dog.

It’s hard to believe that anyone would want to hurt Tank. He’s as cute and sweet as any dog could be. Yet he’s not to be underestimated. This dog is a true hero and the Massachusetts State Police are heralding him as such.
