A typical day for a pizza delivery man most likely consists of endless pick-ups and drop-offs, as well as hours of searching for house numbers in the dark. For customers, getting the food they ordered right at their door is a great feeling—but what if the pizza guy is secretly a hero who catches bad guys in the street?

Nick, a pizza delivery man in Vacaville, California, turned his operation of serving people food into saving people in a surprise twist last week.

Nick was passing time in between delivering pies by listening to a police scanner he installed in his car. He likes to often listen to learn what’s going on around him—but this time he shockingly found himself right in the middle of an attempted getaway.

Not too far away from his car, an armed robbery was taking place.

A woman with a stun gun had held up a woman at a nearby ATM and stolen her money, while Nick heard the description of the suspect over the scanner.

Then he realized the armed robber was right in front of him.

“The car happened to pull out right in front of me,” he said to police. “I kind of pulled over in that lane and got the plate.”

The delivery man was quick on his feet—he immediately called the police and gave them the license plate number and the location.

As police arrived, the getaway car suddenly crashed. Because of Nick’s brave actions, the police were able to quickly arrest the robber.

According to CBS Sacramento, the police were thankful, and without him the suspect would have likely gotten away. Not bad for a pizza delivery guy!

“I like to help out in the community, to try to keep people safe,” Nick said to police.
