A 22-year-old English woman has gotten the word “vegan” tattooed on her head.

The word is now emblazoned above her right eye, stretching from her right forehead to near the middle of her right eyebrow.

Kate Bullen posted a picture of the new tattoo on Twitter, prompting support but also some backlash.

She added the caption, “Now I don’t need to tell everyone I’m vegan every five minutes.”

Vegans are people who do not eat animal products, such as meat, eggs, dairy. Some vegans extend the lifestyle choice into other areas, such as clothing, declining to wear fur clothing for instance.

While some people might regret tattooing any word on their foreheads, Bullen told The Independent she doesn’t regret it one bit.

“A lot of tattoos that people get don’t necessarily have a meaning behind them but as I’m incredibly passionate about veganism and know that I'll be vegan for life, I wanted this one to be someplace visible,” she said.

“I’ve had a lot of comments about being ‘unemployable,’ which doesn’t matter to me since I’ve been self-employed since I was 18. Besides it’s easy to cover with makeup and a fringe.

The artist identified as the one who did Bullen’s work, Jordan McCrea, received so much flak for the work that she deleted the image she had posted of Bullen’s face on Facebook.

She then wrote a post defending the work.

“So [expletive] what if someone wants to get a vegan tattoo on their face. I nearly didn’t do this tattoo because I knew the reaction it would get but I thought [expletive]. what other people say, however I was correct and there have been people tagging their friends and having a good old laugh at the girl,” she said.

“Although I am not a vegan and will most likely never be one, I really respect her for fighting for what she believes in and being proud to show it off, and doing so without ONCE pushing/trying to ‘convert’ me the way everyone seems to thing all vegans do. She respected me and I showed her the same respect by doing the tattoo she really wanted and had done for a while, and making sure the whole process was vegan-friendly, and listening to her talking about it.”
