Anytime someone is airlifted to the hospital, urgency is a foregone conclusion. Mobilizing a helicopter means a race against time to save a patient’s life.
So when a Massachusetts nurse Sandi Moniz was called to the helipad, but saw no urgency in her coworkers, her curiosity was piqued.
She didn’t quite know what was going on, but there was already an inkling that this wouldn’t be a typical visit to the roof at the Charlton Memorial Hospital.
Moniz, who is still in training at the hospital, assumed the leisurely stroll to the helipad was part of an exercise. She couldn’t have been more wrong.
Sandi Moniz, a nurse at the Charlton Memorial Hospital in Massachusetts, was called to the helipad for “training”.
Little did she know that the training exercise was nothing more than a carefully planned ruse. Her boyfriend, Andrew Campos, planned the romantic proposal over the preceding month.
“I saw lights and I’m like, ‘What’s that?’ and then I see a person standing there and I’m like, ‘Wait a minute,'” Moniz said to NBC 10. “It said in big lights, ‘MARRY ME,’ right in the center of the helicopter pad.”
Campos, on a knee with an array of candles forming the shape of a heart, sprung the unexpected proposal on his longtime girlfriend with the help of her coworkers.
“He knows how much I love my job,” she said. “It me feel really happy my boss was a part of it, the president of the hospital was a part of it, security, the Director of Nursing, everyone.”
Campos worked in collaboration with hospital staff, as well as Kala Mosher, his fiancee’s coworker and sister.
Mosher recorded the elaborate proposal from start to finish. In a video she posted on Facebook, Moniz, Mosher, and select members of the staff walk down a hospital hallway in palpable silence.
Anticipation lingers in the air, and Moniz is the only one who can’t feel it.
It takes Moniz a second to put the pieces together, but once she does, she covers her mouth with her hands, hiding the ear-to-ear grin the gesture has put on her face.
“Do you want to go down there?” Mosher asked her.
“Yeah!” Moniz replied.
Moniz was swept off her feet by Campos’ gesture, said yes to his proposal, and has already started making wedding plans.

Moniz said yes to the proposal instantly, calling the entire experience “amazing”.
“Welcome to the family Andrew, you are one hell of a guy, and we’re so excited for you both!” Mosher said in her Facebook post. “Sandi deserves the world and more after everything she’s been through, and I’m so glad she has you”
Shortly after the proposal, Moniz changed her Facebook status to “engaged”, and was swarmed with congratulations from friends and strangers alike.
The two plan to wed in Rhode Island in 2019, at which point Moniz will likely change her Facebook status again.
