Man surprises long-time girlfriend with a visit from Santa she’ll never forget

What’s the best gift you’ve ever gotten from Santa? Was it a bicycle? A game console? A car? Santa has given out millions and millions of presents over the years, ranging from the simplest of necessities to the grandest of luxuries.

Yet he usually does this in secret, leaving gifts out late at night to be found the next morning. He doesn’t usually give out gifts directly but, this year, he made an exception.

Barry Clarke, 34, of Dublin, Ireland had been dating Suzanne Kellett for over a decade. They got along swimmingly and even had a kid together, yet they had never married.

Realizing that it was time to fix this, Clarke schemed to propose to his future bride on December 14 in a way that involved her favorite holiday: Christmas.

“She is Christmas-obsessed. That’s when I decided to hatch a plan with our 2-year-old son, Cameron,” Clarke told ABC News.

Kellett had bought tickets to visit Santa at Arnotts department store, which Clarke saw as the perfect location for a proposal. So he grabbed Cameron and dashed to the store.

“We rushed into the city centre before Suzanne had finished work,” he explained. “We got a direct line to Santa Claus, and we asked if he would help with the proposal! He obliged. So we went to meet Suzanne after work and then went back to the department store again without Suzanne knowing we had just been there!”

This mall Santa was quite welcoming and convincing. During his visit with the family, he offered Cameron a small gift and reminisced about Clarke’s childhood.

He asked Kellett “Does he behave now?” and she joked, “Sometimes.”

It seemed like Kellett was having a carefree, fun visit until Santa reached behind his chair.

When Santa revealed a tiny box, Kellett scooted back in her seat and raised her hand to her face in disbelief. Santa opened the box to reveal the ring inside.

Santa handed the ring to Clarke who got on his knees saying “Will you marry me?” to which Kellett replied “YEAH!”

The whole thing was caught on video, so that the couple can show Cameron when he gets older. Clarke and Kellett have no set date for their wedding. Right now they’re just “recovering from the social media frenzy.”

Yet, whenever they do get married, it’s sure to be a happy holiday.
