Having a surprise run-in with a celebrity on the street is always exciting: you’re just walking down the street, and all of a sudden a movie star is right there. It’s even more exciting when the celebrity turns out to be personable and agrees to take a photo with you.
It’s a rare opportunity, so you try to make sure the photo is just right.
But when a family took a celebrity pic, they missed something big in the background … resulting in an unintentionally hilarious photo.
Twitter user @HonoredSpirit recently shared the story of a friend’s brush with fame. The man was taking his family to Montauk, New York, for the day, and he stopped at a little local store with his daughter to pick up some snacks.
But he never imagined who would be in that unassuming shop:
The star of stage and screen, Ferris Bueller himself, was in the store—and the dad couldn’t resist going over and meeting him.
Even better, Broderick gladly agreed to take a photo with the man’s young daughter outside the store.
It was a perfect photo opportunity—but dad wanted to make sure the picture was just right. But Broderick had a friend with him that day, and he was in the shot.
So, the dad gently asked the friend if he can move out of the way. He stepped over, but he asked him to move further out of the frame.
“And my friend says, just a little more, a little more, keeps doing the nudging motion with his hand,” @HonoredSpirit wrote. “Lots of nudging.”
Then when it was clear that the man wasn’t going to move any more, the dad took the photo, planning to crop the extra man out later.
It was a nice photo with the daughter and Matthew Broderick, and the dad excitedly rejoined the rest of his family to share the story.
However, when he showed them the (full) photo, everyone in the car said the same thing in unison:
“WHAT IS WRONG WITH YOU??”
Because it turns out, the friend he tried to push out of the picture is actually pretty big, too:
It was Jerry Seinfeld!
In the excitement to meet Ferris Bueller, the man had no idea one of the biggest comedians and sitcom stars of all time was right there, too.
Which, really, must’ve been a pretty humbling experience for Seinfeld, who probably can’t remember the last time he was asked to step out of a photo. His face says it all:
(It also must’ve made Matthew Broderick feel pretty good.)
Luckily, he stayed in the picture after all—and the family not only (inadvertently) ended up with a pic with two big stars, they got a hilarious story behind it, too.
