Koalas are known for being cute and often associated with little beyond clinging to trees and stuffing their faces with leaves.

But they’re actually territorial creatures and can get into wrestling matches with each other.

This video captures two koalas engaged in a serious brawl as this dog looks on.

Combat sport analyst Jack Slack says he’s seen a lot of fights, including cockfights, bullfights, goats fighting, and so on.

“I would rate the koala as one of the finest technical grapplers of any species I’ve seen,” he commented in a blog post about these wrestling koalas.

Slack gives an analysis of specific moves the little guys use, and compares them to moves used by professional fighters. He concludes that these grapplers don’t exactly fight by the rules, because they’re not exactly high energy—but this just forces great economy of motion, possibly making them the best grapplers out there. The analysis is worth a look.
