They say that two heads are better than one—and this newborn kitten apparently got the memo. A mother cat from South Africa was pregnant with three kittens, but when she birthed them, the owner was surprised to see four baby faces!

The Dodo explained that while getting a closer look at one of the kittens, Bette Bee, the owner saw three closed eyes, two noses, and two mouths. This is a rare condition called craniofacial duplication, which doubles some facial features inside the mother’s womb.

Bettie Bee was having difficulty nursing, so the owner knew she needed an expert to raise her. An anonymous rescuer with experience taking care of special needs cats took the two-faced kitten in immediately.

“She was born on December 12, and I went to fetch her the very next morning,” Bettie Bee’s rescuer told The Dodo. “I took her to the vet that day and his first opinion was to put her down. But she was, at 1 day old then, very feisty. We wanted to give her a chance. And she’s been thriving.”

Bettie Bee is now being tube-fed, but the cat is also able to eat with both of her mouths. Although the kitten is doing well, according to The Dodo, the condition has caused some other animals with the diagnosis to die after or before their birth. However, some other famous ones have also lived healthy, normal, and happy lives.

The kitten’s story spread quickly and has become a hit on social media. Her rescuer was so overwhelmed with the public’s response that a Facebook page was created so everyone could keep track of her.

“She’s amazing — I still look at her and can’t believe she’s real,” said the rescuer to The Dodo.

“I’m taking it day by day and hope she will continue to thrive and be with myself and my husband for many years. It’s wonderful to see how many people are rooting for her.”
