Every year, hot air balloon enthusiasts from around the globe join together at the Bristol International Balloon Fiesta—the largest annual hot air balloon attraction in Europe.
That means 130 balloons that hail from around the world all going up from midday to midnight, fireworks, circus attractions, fairground rides, and more.
The event was first held in 1979 and has since ballooned (yes) into the largest event of its kind. Crowds of about 100,000 show up the first day to see the beautiful balloons launch into the sky.
This year’s event kicked off Thursday, Aug. 10, with 25 balloons going up before a firework show wraps up the finale.
After dark also means “night glow” balloons—a popular attraction where the balloons are lit up like giant, colorful lamps decorating the lawn.
