A normal fishing trip for a few fishermen took an exciting turn when they heard noises coming from the bushes along the riverbank. Upon closer examination, they saw something running towards them, and they realized … it’s a puppy!
In a YouTube video uploaded in 2016, some fishermen spotted a black puppy amidst the thickets on a riverbank and whistled out to it, before it started trotting towards the fishermen.
The puppy must have known that the men were its hope of being rescued, as it responded to their whistle and quickly tried to get as close to them as possible. The puppy seemed wary of the water, and didn’t want to get wet.
As it anxiously awaited the boat to near the riverbank, the puppy walked onto a fallen tree branch to get as close as possible to the fishermen.
As the fishermen got closer, they managed to reach out to the puppy and haul it safely on board.
After bringing the puppy to safety, they found it a good home. One man had given an update in the video comments: “I took him home, cleaned him up and got some food in his belly. Had some friends looking for a dog that took him in.”
The update also mentioned naming the puppy “Gilligan,” after some suggestions. “I liked the Gilligan name idea! I suggested River or Bridger based on where we found him,” the man wrote.
The rescue earned praises from netizens.
One wrote: “Good rescue, guys! Thank you for taking the time to grab this little guy.”
“This story made my day! Glad you guys took the time to rescue this lil dog,” wrote another.
However, the footage depicts one fisherman awkwardly leaning across from the boat, which had a couple of people wondering why the fishermen didn’t either just move the boat closer, or step into the water to pick the dog up.
The puppy ended up falling into the water and walking across itself, whilst being half dragged by one of the fishermen. Perhaps they just wanted to play with the little pup for a moment?
Anyway, the main thing is that the puppy is alive and well, and is now in a new loving home after being rescued.
