For many people, meeting their pet for the first time is one of their most joyful memories. Of course, this is true even for famous actors and other celebrities, who love their pets just as much as anyone else.
Actor Chris Evans, most famous for playing Captain America in the Marvel movies, recently shared the story of how he met his dog Dodger with People. This adorable story will have you smiling from ear to ear.
When Chris Evans was shooting a scene at an animal shelter, he noticed a dog who “didn’t belong there.”
In 2017, Evans went to an animal shelter to film a scene for the movie Gifted.
“I foolishly walked in and I thought, ‘Are these actor dogs or are these real up for adoption dogs?'” he told People.
He soon came to find that the dogs were, in fact, up for adoption. Knowing this, he started walking around the set to see what kinds of dogs were there.
“I was walking up and down the aisles and saw this one dude and he didn’t belong there,” Evans said.
Evans came up to his kennel and stuck his hand through. The dog tried to behave and stay calm, but it was clear he desperately wanted to come out and play—and Evans couldn’t resist the dog’s friendly nature.
Evans knew he had found a keeper and decided to take the dog home. He gave him the name Dodger.
Evans and Dodger became quick friends, with Evans posting about him regularly on social media.
Dodger quickly turned out to be an ideal fit for Evans and his family.
“He’s just such a sweetheart, he’s such a good boy,” he said. “He loves dogs, he loves kids, he’s full of love.”
Dodger’s cute and playful nature made him a regular subject for Evans’s Twitter account.

This is Dodger’s stuffed lion. He loves it. He brings it everywhere. If you press it’s paw, it sings. Today, Dodger decided to join in. pic.twitter.com/CuH53VNVtF

In fact, it was one of Evans’s tweets that prompted People to interview him in the first place. On April 11, 2018 Evans shared a video of his first encounter with Dodger for National Pet Day.
“I knew right away that he was coming home with me, so I took this video to always remember our first hello. Rescue dogs are the best dogs!!” he wrote in his post.
