For months, 8-year-old Daeyrs had been sleeping on the floor.
He, his three siblings, and his mother Dionna had been moving from shelter to shelter for ages, ever since Dionna lost her job as a nurse.
Eventually, they were granted state housing; but, unable to afford furniture, the children made do with sleeping on blankets on the floor.
Word got out about Daeyrs’s story, and a local nonprofit wanted to make a Christmas miracle happen. Humble Design, which has helped 150 families transition out of homelessness and abuse shelters in 2017, told the family they would help—but the children could not imagine what that would be like at first.
