Mathilda Klein is about to rock your world! She was just 26 when she danced in the Big Band era. Now 94, she’s still dancing, as you can see in this amazing video.
At first, Klien appears to need a walker just to get on the dance floor.
Escorted and supported by her much younger dancing partner, she inches her way across the floor at an agonizingly slow pace.
The cute little granny begins moving to a slow dance from Singin’ In The Rain, barely moving at center stage, all eyes on her. The audience politely smiles and looks at each other as if to say, “Aww, isn’t that just the cutest thing ever?”
Abrupt silence — now what?!
Suddenly, the music stops abruptly and so does the dancing duo. People are either thinking, “Oh my God, she’s having a stroke!” Or, perhaps there were some technical difficulties with the sound system. Neither was the case.
As with other forms of art, a carefully placed pause is often used as an intentional entertainment strategy to hook the audience and draw them in a little closer. This was most certainly the case with Klein.
Granny’s partner then removes her shawl and sets her walker off to the side.
The music takes off, and granny and her partner take off with it. With the moves of a dancer many years younger, Klein delivers her inspiring message of “you’re never too old to dance!” The crowd loves it!
The moral of the story is, ‘If you want to dance with Granny, you better be sure you can keep up! Enjoy!
