Weight loss can be a difficult journey for anyone, human or animal. So when that someone, in this case a dog, reaches a milestone in their journey it’s a cause for celebration.

Meet Miss Butterworth.

Miss Butterworth LOVES the great outdoors!

Miss Butterworth, whose foster family said she looked like a “giant stuffed grape,” arrived at the Asheville Humane Society in June weighing 19.9 pounds. Medical staff at the humane society classified her as morbidly obese and said she should weigh no more than half of her current weight.

According to WLOS, Miss Butterworth was brought to the humane society after her owner passed away and there was no one to take care of the 9-year-old pooch.

When Miss B, as she’s often called, arrived at the humane society she was considered morbidly obese.

According to the humane society, Miss B. was “nearly incapable” of moving and even lying in her kennel made it difficult for her to breathe.

The staff not only wanted, but found it medically necessary, to put the dog on a weight loss plan. She had a goal of losing 10 pounds which would allow her to live a much better life. It would also mean she’d be able to be put up for adoption.

The Asheville Humane Society spays and neuters all animals before they are put up for adoption.

“We don’t know what kind of environment an animal will be in once they leave us, and we never know what other animals they will encounter,” they explained on their Facebook page. “It also reduces the risk of cancer.”

The 9-year-old dog was put on a weight loss plan, in hopes that she’d lose about half her weight.

To start with the 9-year-old dog was only allowed 5–10 minutes of walking per day.

As part of her exercise regimen, Miss Butterworth enjoyed a lovely walk at Biltmore! She could get used to life on the estate as a Vanderpup! 😉 #TeamButterworth

The medical staff didn’t want her overworking herself or putting any excess strain on her heart. She was also given a healthy diet to follow.

Throughout her journey, the humane society shared updates on Miss B.’s progress.

Meredith Pitcairn, of the Asheville Humane Society, told CTV News that many pet owners have become inspired after following Miss B.’s weight loss journey and have shown interest in wanting to improve their pet’s lifestyle.

As each week passed Miss Butterworth continued to lose weight.

In the middle of October, the dog was down four pounds. An even more recent weigh-in saw her current weight at 14.6 pounds, which is a 30 percent loss.

Although she’s not at her ideal weight just yet, veterinarians decided she was healthy enough to be spayed, which means she’s one more step closer to finding her forever home.

Less than six months after arriving at the humane society, Miss Butterworth received her surgery.

Miss B. is currently recovering, but will certainly be back on her weight loss journey as soon as she’s been cleared. And while it’s unclear if she already has a forever home lined up, with all of her fans who have followed her journey for the past several months we doubt she’ll have a hard time finding a loving home.

Miss Butterworth met one of her biggest (and littlest) fans! <3 #TeamButterworth
