Doctors say it’s time to pull the plug on baby in coma, but parents disagree — then she opens her eyes

After a severe virus attack on Marwa’s nervous system left her battling for her life, doctors placed the infant in a medically-induced coma to increase her chances of survival.

But as time passed, doctors grew increasingly concerned that Marwa was not waking back up. They also warned that if she did awaken one day, she would have difficulty functioning.

“Doctors think she will never be able breathe on her own,” her father, Mohamed Bouchenafa, wrote in a Change.org petition.

Eventually, doctors told her parents that the twin had no hope and suggested they take their 1-year-old daughter off of life support. However, Marwa’s parents weren’t ready to give up on their little girl.

Instead, they started a petition called ‘Never Without Marwa’ and collected 100,000 signatures to urge the court to keep their daughter alive as long as possible.

Miraculously, only 10 days after the court granted her a 2-month medical extension, baby Marwa opened her eyes and awoke from the coma.

Her father captured the moment on video.

Baby Marwa stunned hospital staff when she awoke just 10 days after she was granted a life support extension.

Marwa is still receiving treatment, and although she is making minimal progress, her condition is stable, according to her father.

Her parents are hopeful, and say that with each passing day, Marwa gets a little bit better and a little bit stronger.

“As long as there is life, there is hope,” her dad wrote in a Facebook post.
