Some couples choose to celebrate their anniversary by doing something fun and exciting, while others enjoy a nice meal at one of their favorite restaurants.
Every year since they met, Stephen Friar and his wife, Joy, have commemorated their anniversary by reenacting their first date. Each time they take a photo, and as the years go by, there’s an adorable change that takes place.
Stephen and Joy met online.
Stephen shared with the Facebook page, The Way We Met, that he first encountered Joy when she sent him a friend request on Myspace—the social networking site before Facebook.
She had moved to Sherman, Texas, and was looking to make some friends so she turned to the website, which was extremely popular between 2005 and 2008.
Stephen noted Joy was a collegiate athlete, like himself, and decided to strike up a conversation.
“We played the pen pal game for a while until finally, I gathered up the nerve to ask her to lunch,” he wrote.
Their first date was at the restaurant Chili’s.
When it came time for the two to meet in person they decided on Chili’s. Their first date went so well that they spent four hours talking and as Stephen put it, “and the rest, as they say, is history.”
On the anniversary of their first date they returned to the same Chili’s restaurant.
One year after they met each other, Stephen dropped Joy off in front of the restaurant and she walked inside and got the two of them a table, just like the year before.
They even wore the same clothes.
The couple has since repeated the tradition every year for the past 10 years.
For the most part the photos all look the same.
The couples tries to sit in the same booth each year, but sometime things change and they have to adjust.
For example, the photo for their fourth anniversary was slightly different than their picture from the previous year.
Their fifth anniversary saw another addition to their annual photo.
By the time they took their eighth photo at Chili’s, they had three children.
Their photos have been shared thousands of times.
Each year they grew a little older and their family expanded, but their love for each other remained the same.
Joy wrote that next year they’ll be yet another change to the anniversary photo—their fourth child, who was born months after their tenth anniversary, will be present.
