While proposals happen all year round, it’s the proposals at Christmastime that always feel extra magical.

A few days before Christmas, Jeffrey Agan Jr. caught his father, Jeffrey Agan Sr., just as he was about to propose to his ex-wife, Lorrie. It was a tear-jerking moment and the story of how the couple got married, divorced, and then engaged again has left many feeling inspired.

Jeffrey Sr. and Lorrie Agan first married in 1989, but it’s their second proposal in 2017 that has the Internet talking.

In 1989 Jeffrey Sr. and Lorrie had an unconventional wedding ceremony. They exchanged vows in an electronics store “because they were too poor to afford a proper wedding.”

Although the couple had been married for over 20 years and their marriage brought eight children into the world, Jeffrey Sr. and Lorrie divorced in 2014.

The couple’s divorce was tough on everyone in the family.

“They fought, separated, divorced, and it tore the family apart,” Jeffrey Jr. told BuzzFeed. “Each of us felt like we had to cope with the destruction in different ways, and on our own.”

Jeffrey Sr. and Lorrie dealt with the separation by bettering themselves.

“Both of my parents each went on a separate journey for self renewal,” Jeffrey Jr. told FOX 8.

Days before Christmas Jeffrey Sr. gave Lorrie a special gift.

According to FOX 8, Jeffrey Sr. went back to nursing school after having worked as a truck driver for two decades. He also dedicated time to working out and perfecting the art of poetry—this would later come in handy. Lorrie, on the other hand, “found peace in nature, through meditation and self empowerment.”

This new, yet separate journey, led the couple back to each other and they started dating again. And on December 22, 2017, Jeffrey Sr. decided to pop the question for the second time.

Jeffrey Sr. wrote Lorrie a poem and gave it to her as a gift.

The proposal came as a surprise to everyone, but Jeffrey Jr. was prepared and once he figured out what might happen he grabbed his phone and started recording. Since the video was uploaded on December 23, it has been viewed more than 10.5 million times.

Once the video went viral, Jeffrey Jr. set up a GoFundMe page, after others requested he make one, to help defray the cost of a proper wedding for the couple. It didn’t take long to reach his $2,000 goal.

He told BuzzFeed that his family has been overwhelmed by the response of complete strangers watching the proposal.

When she finished reading the poem, Jeffrey Sr. handed her a ring.

“This has been a magical time for my family, with all this outpouring of support,” Jeffrey Jr. told BuzzFeed. “I have defining proof that true love does exist, and that gives hope to so many people!”
