When this cop was woken from sleep by an unexpected call from his mechanic, he quickly loaded his kids into the car and drove them to the repair shop to have a look at what was found.
After taking a few days off from work, the police officer found that the passenger-side headlight of his patrol car wasn’t working. After, he left his patrol car with a mechanic, but didn’t expect to receive a phone call soon after, requesting him to come and take a look at what the mechanic discovered.
“The mechanic began replacing the headlight and noticed the wire had been chewed,” Deputy Sandra Rogers, of the McHenry County Sheriff’s Office, told The Dodo.
“He started to fix that when he saw a whole bunch of leaves, and inside the nest of leaves were four baby squirrels.”
In order to safely take the sleeping baby squirrels out of the car, the mechanic had to first remove the wheel. Then he carefully removed the nest and placed it into a box.
“They were all in perfect condition and sleeping soundly when they were removed by the mechanics,” Rogers said. “It was really cute because their eyes were still closed and they were all tucked in a circle.”
After the babies were placed in the box, Rogers and his children took them back to where he initially parked his car. This was to ensure that their squirrel mom would be able to find them.
Thankfully, the squirrel mom returned and carried her babies away to safety.
