A nine-year-old girl named Addie from San Antonio, Texas, was given a surprise pick-me-up during a cheerleading performance, and it was all due to a kindhearted local student.

Addie’s father, Senior Airman Michael Locklear is in the military, and young Addie misses him a lot while he is on active duty. Her mother Alexis Perry-Rodriguez tries to comfort her by letting her know what a great job her father is doing, according to Local News 24.

“She’s really tough, and she understands that Dad goes away for a reason,” said her mother.

Last October, young Addie was scheduled to participate in a cheerleading routine during half time of the football game at Central Catholic High School.

The cheerleading team had decided to include a special father-daughter move for the girls to celebrate their family in a sweet and adorable way. One of the moves included the fathers lifting their little girls onto their shoulders.

Unfortunately, Addie was the only one who didn’t have her father there to lift her up onto his shoulders.

When the moment came for the big move, Addie couldn’t take it. She burst into tears.

“I just felt like really sad, because I missed him a lot,” said Addie.

“It was really heartbreaking to see your daughter standing out there being the only one without their father,” said her mother.

Local high school senior Matthew Garcia saw the girl, and knew something was wrong.

He immediately hopped over the fence out of the bleachers and comforted the girl.

“I kneeled down, I talked to her, I said, ‘Are you ok?’” said Garcia.

The teen then said Addie could get on his shoulders if she wanted, and she said yes!

“Then I realized what he was doing, and my heart just melted,” said Perry-Rodriguez. “It was just the most beautiful thing.”

Addie was thrilled that someone would go out of their way to make her feel special and a little bit less lonely.

“I just felt like somebody saved my life,” Addie said.
