In the age of social media, celebrity fan mail has become almost nonexistent. Getting in touch with the rich and famous is just a few clicks away, and communicating the old-fashioned way is generally deemed slow and inefficient by comparison.

But that didn’t stop fourth-grader Wyatt Farmer. The Palatka, Florida, boy penned a letter and sent it off, never knowing if its contents would reach the appropriate party.

Wyatt mailed a letter to Lucas Films to tell them how much he loved Star Wars.

Lucas Films, which gets its namesake from iconic Star Wars creator George Lucas, is inundated with praise from adoring fans on a regular basis. With such a high volume of correspondence, it’s easy to get lost in the shuffle.

But the production giant prides itself on being one of the few companies that still makes an attempt to reply to all handwritten fan mail. Wyatt’s letter was no exception.

Shortly after his letter was sent off, a package arrived addressed to him.

“George Lucas sent me a FedEx package filled with ‘Star Wars’ stuff. I got an original Luke Skywalker figure that’s from him,” Wyatt told Action News Jax.

More than a year later, Wyatt’s letter would lead to an even bigger surprise.

According to the SF Gate, Disney and Lucas Films were making press appearances on the East Coast when the higher ups decided to pay a lucky fan an unexpected visit. They went through their stack of East Coast fan mail, and found Wyatt’s letter.

On Thursday, May 17, representatives from Disney and Lucas Films showed up at Kelley Smith Elementary School. The headlining name among them was Chewbacca, one of the series’ most beloved and recognizable characters.

“I didn’t know he was that big!” Wyatt’s mother, Amanda Farmer, told Action Jax news through a laugh.

Chewbacca entered the school’s cafeteria, towering several feet above the elementary schoolers as he posed for pictures and hugs. A constant buzz of excited screaming filled the air for the entirety of Chewbacca’s visit.

Wyatt said Chewbacca’s visit made the day one he will never forget.

Wyatt was all smiles, and at times appeared to be in shock by the surprise guest.

But as excited as his mother was for the visit, her heart welled with pride for her son above all else. She made sure to remind him that the entire occasion was a direct result of his own actions.

“I hope you will never forget this day because it’s something you did. You wrote a letter and you did this for all of your friends,” she said.

“I won’t,” Wyatt said.
