Some strangers got together to become better people, and by coincidence ended up with a heartwarming chance to save the day.
In July, the group met at the Center for Spiritual Awareness in West Sacramento for an anger management course.
However just outside the center, there was a crisis. One of the members had seen a group of ducks—a mother and her ducklings—near the center earlier.
“I just see the mama out here running around … I took a picture of her earlier with her babies,” the man told CBS Sacramento. “She’s got five of them.”
But now, the mother was by herself, frantically searching for her children. It turned out the ducklings had fallen down a storm drain.
The anger management group was struck by the story and decided to embark on a rescue mission, joined by members of law enforcement and animal control.
They lifted the grate using a two-by-four, revealing the trapped ducks below them.
Then, one of the group members went in with a net and rescued the ducklings.
The mission was successful, and the ducklings were reunited with their worried mother.
It was quite an eventful day for the rescuer, who was having his first day of anger management.
“We were trying to do the right thing here,” he said.
It just goes to show that the most compassionate heroes can come from the most unlikely places.
